[Indonesia/Bandung] Water Loss Prevention | Leak Management Pilot Project
Overview
- Duration: October 2023 – February 2024 (5 months)
- Location: Bandung, Indonesia (18 DMA zones)
- Objective: Detect and repair at least 20 leak points to improve water management efficiency.
WI.Plat, in collaboration with PDAM Bandung and PT Supra International Indonesia, successfully implemented a leak management pilot project in Bandung to advance water loss prevention.
This project aimed to address water loss challenges and enhance the operational capabilities of the local water utility. Using WI.Plat’s Intelligent Leak Management System(NELOW), the team carried out systematic leak detection and repair activities across the city’s 18 District Metered Areas (DMAs).
Steps to Achieve Effective Water Loss Prevention
1. Data Collection for Water Loss Prevention in Bandung
The project employed a phased approach to leak sound data collection:
Phase 1 (Initial Survey):
Between October and December 2023, 6,951 data points were collected from 18 DMAs, establishing a critical foundation for effective water loss prevention and identifying potential leak sites
Phase 2 (Detailed Survey):
From December 2023 to January 2024, a further 689 data points were collected through targeted investigations of potential leaks.
Phase 3 (Precision Survey):
Between January and February 2024, nighttime surface exploration identified 50 suspected leak points, resulting in the confirmation and repair of 21 leaks.
2. Advanced Technology Deployment
WI.Plat’s Intelligent Leak Management System(NELOW) played a central role, analyzing collected data to accurately identify leak locations and prioritize repair activities.
3. Collaboration and Field Operations
The project team consisted of 6 members, including 3 personnel from PT Supra International Indonesia and 3 from PDAM Bandung. Operations focused on two key regions: Gedebage and Tegallega, with the goal of enhancing water efficiency in these high-priority areas.
Key Outcomes of Water Loss Prevention Efforts
1. 21 Leaks Repaired to Advance Water Loss Prevention
- Successfully identified and repaired 21 confirmed leaks.
- Significant improvement in water management efficiency across the project areas.
2. Strategic Recommendations for NRW Reduction
- Formation of specialized leak detection teams to ensure ongoing efficiency and support water loss prevention efforts.
- Continued adoption of WI.Plat’s technology to enhance precision in water management.
- Scaling up pilot projects to include more DMAs with expert collaboration.
Lessons Learned for Sustainable Water Loss Prevention
